Tour of the Southern Valley of Cusco
Immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes and extraordinary archaeological sites of the Southern Valley, located just outside Cusco. This tour offers you the opportunity to witness the intricate blend of Andean culture and Spanish influences in the region.
Our journey begins at the Church of San Pedro in Andahuaylillas, also known as the “Sistine Chapel of America.” This architectural gem is renowned for its impressive religious murals, exquisite Baroque-style paintings, gilded frames, and anonymous works from the Cusco School that captivate visitors with their artistic excellence.
Next, we will head to Pikillacta, where you will marvel at the sophisticated urban planning of an ancient society. With over a thousand structures, including temples, colcas (storage buildings), and multi-story residential buildings, this site of the Wari culture reflects an advanced civilization.
Finally, we will arrive at Tipón, an extraordinary Water Temple. Here, you will discover a marvel of ancient engineering: an intricate system of hydraulic channels meticulously designed for agricultural irrigation.
This six-hour tour typically runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and offers a fascinating insight into the rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes of the Southern Valley.

First Day (Tipón - Pikillaqta - Andahuaylillas Sixtine Chapel):
Pick-Up Time:
We will pick you up starting at 8:20 AM from your hotel or accommodation in the city of Cusco. For your convenience, we recommend staying in the city center.
Tour Itinerary:
Tipón – The Water Temple
Our journey begins at the Archaeological Site of Tipón, also known as the Water Temple. Here, you will marvel at the impressive irrigation system and agricultural terraces dating back to the Inca era.Pikillaqta – Ancient Wari City
Next, we will head south to Pikillaqta, the ancient city of the Wari culture. This pre-Inca urban center was significant for its dimensions and served as an important administrative and religious hub. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Huacarpay Lagoon wetlands, located in the town of Lucre.Andahuaylillas – The Sistine Chapel of America
Our final stop will be the district of Andahuaylillas, home to the Church of San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas. Known as the Sistine Chapel of America, this stunning church was built in the 17th century and features one of the most exquisite examples of Colonial Art, complete with gilded altars, murals, and polychrome ceilings.
Return to Cusco:
After our last visit, we will return to Cusco, arriving in the city around 3:00 PM.

TOURIST TICKET FOR THE SOUTH VALLEY AND CUSCO
To access the archaeological sites of the South Valley and Cusco, it is necessary to purchase a Tourist Ticket. Tickets can be purchased in person at the municipality office in the city of Cusco or at the first site you visit; just make sure to bring cash in soles.
General Tourist Ticket (BGT) – 130 Soles: This ticket is valid for 10 days and grants access to 16 locations throughout the Cusco region. It covers key sites in the Sacred Valley such as Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo, and Pisac, as well as sites in Cusco like Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara, Tambomachay, and six museums in the city. It also includes attractions in the south like Tipón and Pikillacta.
Partial Tourist Ticket (PTT) – 70 Soles: Valid for 2 days, this ticket provides access to four specific sites depending on the selected area. For the Sacred Valley, it includes Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo, and Pisac.
Choose the ticket that best fits your itinerary to fully experience the rich history and culture of the Cusco region. Please note that tickets must be purchased as general or partial; single site tickets are not available. Choose the option that best suits your visit.

Clothing: The weather in the South Valley is cool and can vary, so it is recommended to dress in layers. Bring:
- T-shirt and sweater to adapt to temperature changes.
- Waterproof jacket or poncho for rain.
- Comfortable pants and sports shoes or comfy walking shoes.
Sun Protection: Due to the altitude and strong sun exposure, it is essential to:
- Use high-protection sunscreen.
- Bring sunglasses and a hat or cap to shield yourself from the sun.
Camera: Don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture the spectacular landscapes and historical sites of the Sacred Valley.
