- GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This full-day tour to Machu Picchu by train offers the perfect opportunity to explore this world wonder quickly and comfortably. From Cusco, you will embark on an exciting journey that combines travel by car and train, with door-to-door service from your hotel. This experience is ideal for those who want to discover Machu Picchu in a short time without missing any details of its impressive history and beauty.
While it is a time-limited tour, the magic of Machu Picchu will leave an unforgettable impression on you. We recommend booking in advance, especially during peak season, due to the high demand for train tickets and entry to the archaeological site.
The package includes entry to the Machu Picchu citadel, which we manage on your behalf. The most requested circuits are typically 1, 2, and 3, which we offer as part of the guided tour. Since these circuits fill up quickly, it is essential to secure your spot at least three months in advance. If the main circuits are not available, circuits 4 and 5 will be viable alternatives.
The key difference between the circuits lies in access and views. Circuits 1, 2, and 3 allow access from the upper part of Machu Picchu, providing panoramic views and classic photography opportunities. On the other hand, circuits 4 and 5 start from the lower part, with fewer options for capturing the iconic view of the citadel.
It is important to note that no circuit covers the entirety of Machu Picchu, but all include a guided tour lasting 2 to 2.5 hours with a specialized guide who will provide detailed information about the site’s history and architecture.
Initial Transport: The tour begins with an early transfer from your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley (Pisac, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, etc.) to the train station in Ollantaytambo, located about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Cusco.
Train Journey: You will travel on a scenic train that departs from Ollantaytambo around 6:10 or 6:40 AM. During the 1.5-hour journey, you will enjoy stunning views of the Andean landscapes and the Urubamba River.
Arrival in Aguas Calientes: Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), our representative from Machu Picchu New Orizon will greet you and guide you to the bus that will take you to the citadel.
Ascent to Machu Picchu: A 30-minute bus ride from Aguas Calientes will take you to the main entrance of Machu Picchu, offering breathtaking views of the mountainous landscape.
Guided Tour in Machu Picchu: In Machu Picchu, an expert guide will lead you through the main points of interest, explaining the history and mysteries of this ancient site. The tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours on one of the established circuits, usually circuit 2.
Free Time: You will have about 30 minutes to explore on your own and take more photographs after the guided tour. The total time allowed in Machu Picchu is 3 hours, including the guided visit.
Return to Aguas Calientes: After exploring Machu Picchu, you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for a 25-minute journey. Here, you can enjoy a meal, explore the town, or simply relax before the return trip.
Return Train Journey: You will board the train back to Ollantaytambo in the afternoon, typically around 2:30 or 3:20 PM. The journey lasts 1.5 hours, and upon arrival, our transportation will take you back to your hotel.
Arrival in Cusco/Sacred Valley: The tour concludes with your arrival at your hotel, whether in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, ensuring a comfortable ending to this incredible full-day experience in Machu Picchu.
