- ITINERARY
Day 1: CUSCO - SAYWITE - CAPULIYOC - CHIKISKA
Your Choquequirao adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel or Airbnb in Cusco between 6:00 and 6:30 AM. After gathering the group, we embark on a scenic 3.5-hour drive through the stunning Peruvian highlands towards Saywite Archaeological Park.
Morning Highlights:
- Saywite Archaeological Park: Here, you’ll explore an intriguing Inca stone that features intricate carvings resembling miniature architectural models, believed to represent the Inca Empire’s vast territory. You’ll also see ceremonial centers that offer insight into Inca rituals.
Afternoon:
After our visit to Saywite, we continue our journey by car for another hour to Capuliyoc in Cachora, where you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Apurimac Canyon and the snowy Padreyoc Mountain. We will enjoy a delicious local lunch here, fueling up before starting our trek.
From Capuliyoc, the adventure truly begins as we descend for approximately three hours. The trail passes through several scenic viewpoints, including Cocamasana, offering panoramic views of the canyon and surrounding landscapes. We then reach our destination for the night, Chikiska.
Evening:
In Chikiska, you will settle into a comfortable rural lodge, offering double or matrimonial beds, where you can unwind after the day’s activities. A nourishing dinner will be served, allowing you to relax under the stars in this serene Andean setting.
- Elevation: The camp in Chikiska is located at 2,900 meters (9,514 feet) above sea level, offering a peaceful environment surrounded by the majestic Andean mountains.

Day 2: CHIKISKA - PLAYA ROSALINAS - MARAMPATA
We begin our second day early with a hearty breakfast in Chikiska, preparing for the challenging trek ahead.
Morning Trek:
The first part of the day involves a gentle descent of about 1 hour to reach Playa Rosalina, located on the banks of the Apurímac River. After crossing the river, the real challenge begins as we start our steep ascent toward Santa Rosa. This section will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and, while physically demanding, offers shaded areas to provide some relief during the climb.
Break and Ascent to Marampata:
After a short rest at Santa Rosa, we continue our ascent for another 1.5 to 2 hours until we reach the village of Marampata, perched on a ridge with breathtaking views of the valley below. By this time, we will have gained about 1,500 meters in elevation from Playa Rosalina, making this day’s hike one of the more challenging segments of the trek.
Afternoon:
Upon reaching Marampata, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch and have the rest of the afternoon to relax and recover from the demanding climb. This village offers an excellent vantage point for enjoying the surrounding landscape, with the ruins of Choquequirao visible in the distance, heightening the anticipation for tomorrow’s exploration.
Evening:
A nourishing dinner will be served in the evening, and we will spend the night in Marampata, preparing for our journey deeper into the heart of Choquequirao the following day.

Afternoon:
After lunch, continue your journey upward for another 3 hours as you ascend to the stunning Capuliyoc viewpoint. The path offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains, making every step worthwhile.
